Ghent University has a strong tradition in biotechnological conversion of resources, both from agricultural and industrial origin, to high-value products. A new IOF (Interdisciplinary Research Fund) valorisation consortium, entitled "Biomolecules", will be a business development center that bundles complementary research groups from several expertise domains:
- Genetic Engineering (Faculty of Science and Faculty of Bioscience Engineering)
- Microbial Bioproduction (Facultyof Bioscience Engineering)
- Chemical Modification (Factulty of Bioscience Engineering and Faculty of Engineering and Architecture)
- Socio-economical Aspects (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration)
The BCCM/GeneCorner Plasmid Collection will support the Genetic Engineering pillar of "Biomolecules".
