Further information: This plasmid is a yeast expression shuttle vector.
The GALL promoter is a deletion variant of the S. cerevisiae galactokinase promoter (GAL1), which lacks one of the 3 upstream activation sequence (UAS) elements required for full induction of the promoter by galactose. The GALL promoter is tightly repressed by glucose and is induced at a moderate level by galactose.
When cloning a fragment downstream from the lac promoter it may be advisable to use lacI(q) strains in order to prevent fortuitous expression of a possibly noxious polypeptide.
Other name of the plasmid is p425 GALL.
