Agar plates with colonies of different types of fungi can be sent for analysis. An overview of the fungal diversity can be performed based on the morphology (= visual morphotype analysis) with limited fungal identification (for example 'Penicilium sp.', 'Aspergillius fumigatus group', 'yeasts', 'sterile mycelium', etc.). Alternatively, each morphotype can be isolated and identified more precisely using eighter MALDI-TOF MS of DNA sequencing.
