House fungi diagnostic at BCCM/MUCL

The identification of wood-decaying and other fungi in buildings and building materials environment is focused on the differentiation of the most damaging dry-rot fungus (Serpula lacrymans) from other fungi such as Coniophora sp. or others (e.g. Antrodia, Donkioporia, Gloeophyllum).

Harmful wood-destroying fungi, such as dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) may occur in different growth forms depending on the conditions. To know their accurate identification is essential to take all necessary measures.

Submit the sample in person to the secretariat, during an appointment with the responsible staff, or by mail.

The result is communicated

  • directly, if the sample is delivered during an appointment, or

  • within one week after reception for samples deposited at the secretariat or send by mail.

The report with the identification result is send with the invoice.

How to collect the sample?

Degraded wood: collect a representative part of the wooden support.

Fungus: collect multiple fragments of the fungus, such as threads, filaments, felt-like surface cover, fruiting bodies and place them in an envelope or bag, preferably made of paper.

Mould: remove part of the degraded fragment (wood, paper or similar) covered with mould and insert it in a paper bag.

Filaments on masonry: apply a transparent adhesive tape 5 cm long on the contaminated area and then stick it on a plastic support.
