Image Flow Cytometry at BCCM/DCG

At BCCM/DCG, Image Flow Cytometry of diatoms, other micro-algae and other objects < c. 100 µm is performed using the ImageStream®X Mark II.

This device combines microscopy and flow cytometry, providing bright-field, dark-field (SSC), and several fluorescent images of each cell in flow, at high speed. It can be used for spatial localization of biomolecules and cellular components, reporting signal intensity with very high sensitivity. The acquisition of the data is done using the INSPIRE® ImageStream®X Mark II software.

Key features:

  • 12 images per object
  • throughput of c. 2000 cells/sec
  • magnification 20x, 40x, 60x
  • excitation lasers: 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, 642nm, 785nm.

The ImageStream®X Mark II can be combined with IDEAS® software for quantitative image analysis and population statistics.
