| Further information: | The plasmid was constructed by inserting the PstI-PvuII fragment of the mouse Mx promoter sequence into the unique PstI and HindII sites of pSP64; this resulted in the loss of the unique HindII and the unique SalI site of the pSP64 polylinker. This plasmid contains the mouse Mx promoter including 19 nucleotides downstream from the TATA-box, ending at position -1 which is the middle of the lost PvuII site. When cloning a fragment downstream from the lac promoter it may be advisable to use lacI(q) strains in order to prevent fortuitous expression of a possibly noxious polypeptide.
